Operating a chainsaw from a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) is no exception.

Our course is designed to help set up that risk.

It’s appropriate for anyone aged 16 or over.The finer details

We expect you to have a working knowledge of chainsaw maintenance and cross-cut techniques.

You’ll also need to have a current licence to practice in the type of MEWP you aim to use.

Our course does not include work with MEWPs that are not controllable from the platform bucket.

We use a balanced mix of theory and practical sessions.

You’ll learn the latest safety guidelines and legislation.

We’ll also teach you the practical skills required to operate your chainsaw safely and efficiently.

Course sessions:

  • HSE legislation and safety guidelines
  • MEWP equipment
  • Checks before using a MEWP
  • Setting up the MEWP
  • Chainsaw use
  • Completion of work.

Worth noting: You must be physically fit and not on any medication that could affect your safety.

This is not a course for anyone suffering from vertigo or similar conditions.

The course is also ideal if you’re looking to work towards a regulated qualification or a Licence to Practice – both are available with our Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting.

We work closely with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to ensure both the course’s content – and the materials we use – are in line with current safe working practices.

You’ll learn all the theory needed to use and keep a chainsaw running safely, with key sessions covering saw chain, guide bar, and power unit maintenance.

And you’ll gain hands-on experience of starting a chainsaw, run through all the pre-cutting tests and learn the skills needed to expertly cross-cut timber.

Worth noting: Chainsaws are powerful and potentially dangerous tools, so you’ll need a minimum level of fitness to be able to complete the practical side of the training.

From first cuts to full-on felling, our five-day course will teach you all you need to know about using a chainsaw. This is a hands-on course that delivers both practical skills and health and safety guidance as well as demonstrating that you and your employer have completed sufficient training to meet the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

The chainsaw is the go-to tool across any number of industries, from agriculture to woodland conservation.

It’s a powerful and portable machine, but also a dangerous one that requires regular maintenance.

There are a number of individual courses available to teach you the basics of chainsaw care and use, as well as specific skills such as tree felling and processing.

We’ve combined three of these to produce a comprehensive and intensive course that will save you precious time.
